PZT – the first Polish company in the European market… for ultra-heavy specialized transports

The Port Technical Company SA in Gdynia, holding a specialized modular transporter SPMT (Self Proppeled Modular Transporter), produced by the European leader in the industry – the German company Scheuerle, is the only company offering this type of equipment.

Purchased in August 2013. modular transporter turned out to be a very good investment complementing portfolio of Gdynia company. So far Polish contractors can only use foreign equipment, specially transported to complete the task in Poland from Germany, Belgium or the Netherlands.

For the PZT there is the fourth generation of machines produced for customers around the world since 1983.

With this specialized equipment Gdynia company performed this year the transport of the STS crane weighing 900 t, which took place at the container terminal DCT Gdansk and transport of two gantry rail cranes RMG used for handling containers weighing 340 t each. The last shipment took place in relation to the assembly’s site, by means of the pontoon, directly to one of Gdynia container terminals.

The company also supports partners in the transport of large sections of the ship, bridge or offshore. Owned 4 modules 4-axis plus 2 modules 6-axis (along 28 axes) are mutually fully compatible and allow any of their juxtaposition thus creating the opportunity to build a combination that meets the weight and overall dimensions of cargo.

A very important feature of the system is very precise movement in every possible direction, including forward, backward, sideways, diagonally, and around a turn virtually every possible to define the axis of rotation. In addition, each module, and the whole set is capable of lifting and lowering of the loading plane, whose height from the ground during transport is approximately 1.5m ± 35 cm. This allows independent driveway under the load, lifting it on himself, transportation to the place of destination and departure independent from the load. An experienced operator is able to position the load with an accuracy of a few millimeters.

The modules making up the set are adapted to transport the working place by standard trailers. Weight of one module with driving unit does not exceed 20 t. And dimensions (4-axis module: 5.6 mx 2.43 m, 6-axis module: 8.4 mx 2.43 m, the drive unit: 2.7 mx 2.43 m) allows for easy loading on a truck.

Port Technical Company SA operates in the market of specialized transports started from the spectacular series of cranes ASC transportated to New York. There were a total of 20, each weighing more than 300 t. transported from the assembly square of the company under a ship on the basis of FAS.
Shortly thereafter, there was a very rapid increase in orders for this type of specialized services. Rising market interest resulted in the order of 2 pieces of additional modules – this time 6-axis with a capacity of about 216 t each. They were delivered to them in September 2014. In this way PZT, having a total of 28 axes with two drive units, increased their ability to move cargo with a total weight up to 1000 tonnes.
Gdynia’s company is currently analyzing the possibility of expanding the owned facilities with new modules to meet the ever larger and heavier cargoes that already appear on the specialized transport market in 2016.
