Port Technical Company Ltd. was founded in April Fools’ Day 1995 in the noon. To this day it is not known whether it was a joke “Founding Fathers” – Port of Gdynia Authority S.A. or pure coincidence. Today, in retrospect, this fact can be considered as lucky. The 90s were periods of widespread commercialization and privatization of Polish companies. In the Port of Gdynia on the canvas were created – in place of the existing areas reloading – reloading terminals in the form of commercial companies (Baltic General Cargo Terminal Ltd., Baltic Container Terminal Gdynia, Maritime Bulk Terminal Gdynia Ltd., Baltic Grain Terminal) an the in place of the Departments of renovation Main Mechanic – Port Technical Company. The aim of all these companies there were quickly adaptation to market realities, free competition and self-development, at the beginning under the wings of “Mother” – means Port, then after the privatization Growth According to the will of the new owners.
The beginnings of PZT were not easy – for one organizational structure thrown four large, different departments of sector repair
(mechanical, electrical, construction, repair of cargo handling equipment, each with their own, often duplicative of IT infrastructure) – a total of about 400 people, provided a minimum cash contribution and suggested an independent business under the loose corporate bonds Port of Gdynia. The traditional market for services within the structure of the port very quickly melted, because the excesses of staff throughout the Port were huge, on the one hand a lot of competition internal technical services for transshipment terminals, on the other hand the need to compete with outside companies for building and renovations port repair market.
From the very beginning the company had to look for themselves their own market for his services. In parallel, there was carried out intensive restructuring and reorganization within the company, he inherited the structure of a past era was completely ill-suited to the surrounding market. In the first four years of the PZT it has reduced its workforce by approximately 27% (375 people in 1995 to 292 in 1999) and revenues increased more than twofold (8.5 million in 1995 to 18,5mln in 1999). After three years of intensive action and exploration of new directions, one of the leaders in the field of supply devices offered us the first container gantry assembly on rubber wheels (RTG- Rubber Tyred Gantry Cranes). They were the first in the history of ready to work RTG cranes delivered to the customer in the USA and that was the beginning of activity of PZT as a assembly company. Another important milestone in the activities of PZT as the assembly company there was a contract for the installation of a crane with a capacity of 1,000 tons – over the dry dock for Gdynia Shipyard. Installation works were carried out at the turn of 2000/2001 year. They were quite complicated – would require a substantial precision in the welding of thick steel plates at height. To this day – due to the dimensions it is the most visible sign mounting possibilities of the Company.After that there came the next installation contracts, new customers from the container devices. Since 2005, the PZT started to perform assembly services abroad. Since then, almost every year, the Company has experienced an important fact in its development. With the progress of attracting new customers and expanding market, the Company was subjected to privatization process. As a result, after several unsuccessful attempts to sell the business The Board of PZT decided to more active participation in the privatization of their own and in 2010 acquired 100% of the shares of PZT thus becoming its owner. Currently, we are well-recognized brand cooperating with the world leaders in production of equipment of container. We carry out assembly of individual devices as well as the entire container terminals on both of our sites in Gdynia assembly as well as in a number of locations around the world.
